A Word from the Primary Principal

Welcome to our Primary School. My name is Matthew Dagan, and it is a true privilege to work in partnership with our vibrant school community. I believe that primary education is a time for discovery where every child should be encouraged to explore, build confidence, and find their voice as a learner. Our dedicated team has created a nurturing and dynamic environment, underpinned by a uniquely developed curriculum and a deep commitment to student learning and growth. Together, we aim to inspire curiosity, celebrate progress, and ensure every child feels valued, supported, and ready to thrive.

High Quality Teaching & Learning

At Riverside School, we believe that learning should be a rewarding and an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through our teaching, we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to make informed choices and to have independent thought. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children to lead happy and rewarding lives. We aim to develop global citizenship and maximise the potential of every student through high quality teaching and learning.

Lessons are relevant, immersing students in real world experiences and application of their learning. Lessons and learning material is differentiated to meet students’ individual needs ensuring all students achieve and make progress. Outstanding and experienced teaching professionals ensure high levels of challenge for all students.

Through a range of learning experiences and support from teaching staff, students learn to become independent in their learning. Exciting learning environments and immersive lessons ensures all students are inspired, engaged and motivated to learn. Collaboration is actively taught and encouraged throughout the Primary School enabling students to develop life long learning skills.

Our world class teaching staff are highly aware of students’ needs and capabilities both academically and emotionally. Cultural diversity is actively promoted and celebrated.

Creativity and exploration are encouraged through the Arts and our Inquiry approach to Science and Humanities. Big questions, hands on learning and active research develops inquiring minds and promotes reflective thinkers. An encouraging and supportive environment enables students to take risks in their learning and see mistakes as an opportunity to grow and learn, developing resilience and strength.

Students at Primary School achieve high standards in core subjects and also across the wide range of curriculum offerings. This includes regularly outperforming UK national standards and international school benchmarks.

Student Voice & Wellbeing

Riverside School aims to create an environment of trust and respect that enables all students to share their thoughts and ideas. The leadership and staff are committed to listening and learning from students, considering their opinions, ideas and feedback. Beyond our numerous avenues of authentic feedback collection, formal avenues to share voice and participate in leadership opportunities are available across the school.

Student Council members have the responsibility of hearing the voices of their respective classmates and bring these matters to the Student Council. This allows children to participate in student leadership activities and discuss student-related matters with School Leadership members. The student council representatives will serve peers, by sharing ideas, passing along feedback through various avenues in order to help make positive changes.

Eco Council members think about how the students and school actions affect the environment. They consider issues such as waste, water usage, sustainable buying, food choices, the school environment, biodiversity, transportation and energy. The Eco Council undertakes projects that will help inform the students about local and global issues and promote choices that will make the world a better place.

The Future Leaders programme empowers and supports our students as future leaders and global citizens. Students are provided opportunities for learning, growth and awareness through service projects within the school, local and wider communities. Students can actively promote the ethos and qualities of Riverside School to build leadership skills through our school ethos and values.

Our Primary House Captains represent our four Houses of Havel, Hus, Karel and Komensky. House Captains serve as leaders across the school, promoting school values, behavior and collective responsibility to uphold our school values and ethos. House Captains lead their peers during inter-house sport events and a variety of activities throughout the year.

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors are students  trained to support their peers on the playground, using a variety of wellbeing approaches and strategies. They use these skills and knowledge to develop and lead peer support projects that reduce mental health stigma, improve access to support for all students, and encourage the development of positive coping and stress management.

Skills for Life

Our Skills for Life programme reflects Riverside’s deep commitment to enriching student learning and building meaningful connections with our wider community. With over 150 clubs offered weekly for students aged 3–18, our extensive and vibrant after school programme provides opportunities to grow physically, creatively, and academically. Led by passionate staff and expert providers, each club is designed with clear outcomes that extend learning beyond the classroom. In Primary School, Skills for Life is considered an extension of the curriculum, and participation is highly encouraged as part of every child’s journey toward lifelong learning and confidence.

Design, Innovation and Technology

During the school day, the children will participate in a variety of timetabled activities to guide their learning, making use of our well resourced and carefully planned learning environments, both inside and outside.

All Primary students participate in weekly Computing lessons with planned learning objectives that go beyond UK National Standards. Our students engage a curriculum focused on objectives linked to E-Safety, ICT skills and Coding. Cross curricular links are mapped out across core subjects so that students can apply their skills in daily learning.

Digital integration is planned through Design & Technology lessons, Computing lessons and core subjects. Students have access to a dedicated MakerSpace and Digital Design Space where digital integration skills and progress can occur.

The Primary Makerspace provides a great resource to students for hands-on design, crafting and making experiences. This includes woodworking shops, student kitchen, and dedicated 3-D printers in our Digital Design space.

School Day

During the school day, Primary students are exposed to a creative, wide-ranging curriculum where they find many avenues of success. Beyond the core subjects delivered by classroom teachers, students participate in a wide array of specialist subjects, led by expert specialist teachers so that progress and confidence can be found in all areas of learning and development.

The Primary School is located along the river in the Sdelc neighborhood of Prague 6. A free shuttle bus service is available before school, after school and following Skills for Life clubs each day. This option allows common drop off and pick up points for families, connecting each campus division.

A fee transport option is also available providing more convenient transportation options for families living in neighborhoods throughout the city. All bus lines include staffing of Riverside stewards and stewardesses.

A hot lunch option is available for Primary students. Our catering service, Fresh & Tasty, strives to provide a wide range of healthy lunch options to meet the diverse needs of our student body. With three options offered daily, Fresh & Tasty also work with families to adjust for most all dietary needs.
