Riverside International School seeks to champion the ideals of Challenge, Community and Care through every aspect of the School. Challenge

The strategic value of Challenge is centered on the belief that excellence is achieved through setting the highest standards of academic rigour while promoting effort, perseverance, and resilience. Challenge involves providing high-quality education and skills for life, giving every child the opportunity to develop their full potential. In addition to academics, challenge at Riverside provides a holistic approach encompassing creative, personal, and social “for life” aspects.

Staff foster active learning based on Riverside’s definition of High-Quality Teaching, inspiring students and challenging them to think critically. Dedicated to personal development and holistic education, they extend learning beyond the classroom, building resilience, problem-solving, and independent thinking to help students reach their full potential.

Students take responsibility for their learning and strive to do their best. They approach challenges as opportunities for growth, demonstrating focus, patience, and thoughtful effort. They develop the skills to balance academic responsibilities alongside life skills and social responsibilities.

Challenge is at the heart of the Riverside experience. Our curriculum, adapted from the National Curriculum of England and the International Baccalaureate and supported by differentiated teaching approaches, ensures that students consistently exceed national and international academic standards.

Beyond the classroom, our Skills for Life and Outdoor Adventures programmes help students develop resilience, confidence, and problem-solving skills. Riverside is committed to the arts, including Musicians for Life, drama, and fine arts, with performances and exhibitions highlighting student achievement. We are also dedicated to design and technology through our Innovation Centre and Maker Space, where students showcase their creative projects. These experiences extend learning beyond the academic curriculum, fostering a broad range of skills and interests and preparing students to embrace future challenges.

Community

Rooted in the school’s Christian ethos, it fosters positive relationships and values each individual, creating a space for social connection and nurtures compassionate, globally-minded citizens. The school aims to make a positive impact locally and beyond.

The school fosters Community through its focus on Global Citizenship, shared events, active involvement and strong connections with an Open Door policy. Staff are community-minded and are committed to building positive school wide relationships.

Students develop positive relationships and attitudes toward others. They show support, togetherness, and collaboration, often through group projects and teamwork. Students are encouraged to recognise the best in others.

At Riverside, we foster a welcoming and connected community. The school hosts a wide range of events, including assemblies, International Week, and PTA activities such as the Welcome Picnic and Summer Fair. A strong family community is cultivated through an Open Door Policy and active parent involvement, helping students, parents, and staff feel at home.

Students actively contribute to the Riverside community through house competitions, choirs, school trips, and Activity Week, while also suggesting initiatives to strengthen connections between year groups and the wider community. Opportunities such as volunteering at the local Soup Kitchen and service learning trips promote inclusivity, encourage empathy, and reinforce Riverside’s commitment to a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone belongs and can thrive.

Care

Care is rooted in the belief that every child is unique, valued, respected, and that their wellbeing is paramount. This creates a protective and supportive environment, giving students and the wider community a sense of home and belonging within Riverside’s international setting. Staff foster strong, trusting relationships through professional, relational approaches, with Care also encompassing mental health, safeguarding, and specialised student support.

Staff model kindness and fairness and apply expectations consistently while still considering individual needs. The positive impact of the staff is achieved by building relational trust which is critically important to a successful school.

Students are expected to show respect for themselves and others and contribute positively to the wellbeing of those around them. They display understanding, empathy, kindness, and support.

Care informs and supports every aspect of our school community. Staff at Riverside build strong, positive relationships and provide personalised support, ensuring every student feels valued, understood, and able to thrive both academically and personally. Tutors, learning support, nurses, and mental health counsellors work together to meet each student’s individual needs, fostering confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Students show care by supporting one another and contributing to an inclusive, respectful school community. Wellbeing is further promoted through events such as Brain Day, Spirit Week, Kindness Week, and Mental Health Week, alongside student voice initiatives, wellbeing ambassadors, and safeguarding programmes. Vision: Develop inspiring, accessible, and sustainable spaces that support challenge, learning, wellbeing, and community connection.

Reconfigure learning environments to support diverse pedagogical approaches and maximise student creativity.

Strategically explore an upgrade of indoor and outdoor facilities for better recreation, collaboration, and community access.

Enhance the use of the library, collaborative learning spaces, and other shared areas to continue fostering a strong sense of connection across the school community.

Integrate the Primary Innovation Space and the Secondary School Innovation Centre as core, dedicated resources for future-focused skill development, technology integration, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Strategic Digital Innovation

to enhance High-Quality Teaching & Learning

Vision: To advance the school’s strategic approach to High-Quality Teaching and Learning and challenge by leveraging digital innovation, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Focus Areas: Ai Strategy

Proactively seek external consultation and expert guidance to inform the ethical, effective, and secure integration of AI tools across curriculum, assessment (Portraits App), and administration.

AI strategy embedded in School Development Plan; digital vision communicated to all stakeholders; AI for Learning team is developed.

Policies covering data ethics, vendor selection, student/parent agreements.

Continuous cycle of PD led by the AI for Learning Team.

Vision: Empower students as active participants in decision-making while fostering a diverse and inclusive school community to enhance Riverside’s commitment to care.

Prioritise and formalise mechanisms for student input in critical school areas, including pedagogy, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, facility planning, and student leadership structure.

Systematically support and resource student-led initiatives and advocacy groups that drive positive social, environmental, and institutional change both within the school and the wider local community.

Actively promote equity, and inclusion by reviewing and adapting curriculum materials, diversifying resources, and strengthening recruitment and retention strategies to ensure a more representative and culturally competent staff body.

Continue to implement ongoing training and educational programmes for students and staff to actively promote mutual respect, celebrate diversity, and effectively address bias and discrimination.

Sustainability

& Environmental Responsibility

Vision: To demonstrate a deep commitment to environmental stewardship by embedding and continuously seeking to expand sustainable practices into all relevant school operations challenging our community to be caring, responsible global citizens.

Promote environmental sustainability across the school community by integrating UN Sustainable Development Goals into curriculum, operations, and campus life, reducing resource consumption, fostering biodiversity, embedding eco-friendly practices, and empowering students as global environmental citizens.

Establish and enforce comprehensive sustainability policies and procedures across all school departments, ensuring consistency in waste management, procurement, and resource use.

Actively measure and reduce the school’s environmental footprint through targeted initiatives, including maximising energy and water efficiency, implementing robust recycling and composting programs, and adopting sustainable design principles for all facility developments. Utilise student and staff voice to identify initiatives that support the reduction of Riverside’s carbon footprint.

Cultivate a vibrant culture of environmental responsibility by integrating sustainability topics across the curriculum and engaging students, staff, and the wider community in hands-on environmental action projects and conservation efforts.

Parent Communication

& Engagement

Vision: To elevate the level of parent communication, ensuring it is consistent, transparent and multi-accessible, thereby strengthening the school-family partnership and maximising collaborative involvement across the whole school community.

Establish a coherent communication ecosystem where each medium (parent app, email, website, social media and printed communication) play a defined and complementary role, ensuring communication is timely, coordinated, and strategically placed to avoid overload/duplication and maximise parent engagement.

Ensure communication systems are designed for maximum accessibility, providing robust support for multiple languages and maintaining a user-friendly interface that meets the needs of all families.

Leverage the communication platform to actively encourage and facilitate meaningful parent participation in student learning, school wellbeing initiatives, and community events, moving beyond passive information sharing.

Ensuring that the communication practices are regularly monitored and refined so the school consistently meets the evolving needs of families and maintains standards across all channels.
