Riverside School was founded in 1994 by two expatriate families, who had been seeking a suitable school for their children. They made the decision to open their own and found a building on the banks of the Vltava River in a picturesque setting a short distance from the city centre.
Following extensive reconstruction the school opened for Primary aged children under the headship of Simon Beavan, who remained the Principal for the first five years of the school. During this period the school grew to 100 children.
In the years that followed the school extended its provision to offer secondary education. Through expansion the school developed separate sites for Early Years, Primary, Junior High and Senior High.
It developed a Skills for Life Programme, extending outdoor education and Musicians for Life. It opened the Riverside Ranch in an area of natural beauty and offered student supported accommodation.
The current Founders are Sharon Jackson, an original Founder and Brian Thompson, a member of the Riverside Board.
Riverside School is a not for profit organisation, an O.P.S. All income generated is channelled back into the school, the Director being the only salaried member of the Board.
The Riverside Board consists of a Management Board, a Supervisory Board, the School Director and additional Board Members.
The Riverside Management Board is responsible for the Financial Management of the School and the appointment of the School Director.
The Riverside Supervisory Board monitors the work of the Management Board to ensure that the responsibilities of office are appropriately carried out.
The Riverside Board is a self appointing body. It meets at least four times each year, either in person or virtually, in London or Prague.
The Riverside Directors are responsible for the day to day running of the school.
